Who we are
Spotlighters are a diverse bunch. From our product and development teams through to our membership, events, studios, finance, data and publishing teams - everyone here is passionate about television, film and theatre. Nothing beats the feeling of seeing one of our members land their first West End role, a graduate member getting their first audition, or a longstanding member collecting an Academy Award, BAFTA or IFTA. We live for those moments.
We know the industry inside out and use this knowledge to support our members. We're motivated by bringing people together, helping actors to get cast and casting directors to find the right performer for every role. That's why we're always looking for better ways to help our members connect - just as we did back in 1927.
Where we've come from
For decades we published the iconic Spotlight directories, but as technology evolved so did Spotlight - CD ROMs and digital editions followed - and now we’re entirely online. What hasn’t changed is our commitment to ensure every Spotlight member has as many opportunities as possible to be submitted for work via the Spotlight Link; develop professionally, have access to great news and advice, events and always be showcased in the best possible light.
Developing international relationships has also long been part of our history. From French and German translations in our very early books to the formation of the International Alliance of Casting Directories (IACD) in 1998 and in 2021 joining forces with Talent Systems, today Spotlight is rightly recognised as the home of casting. We connect our casting professionals and performers everywhere online, run hundreds of events each year nationwide and abroad, and continue to improve the ways in which we can connect our members globally.
