Ros Hubbard to Receive IFTA 2018 Spotlight Casting Director Award
Casting Director of The Lord of the Rings and The Mummy to be Honoured at IFTAs Ceremony in Dublin
The Irish Academy has today announced that Ros Hubbard, the legendary Irish casting director, is to receive the Spotlight Casting Director Award at the IFTA Awards on 15th February. Ros, together with her husband John, founded Hubbard Casting in 1976.
Born in Dublin, she has worked and lived in London for almost forty years. Ros has extensively cast for Hollywood as well as the UK and Irish film and TV industry. Together with John they have cast films such as The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Hobbit, Evita, Angela’s Ashes, The Mummy, The Bourne Trilogy and The Da Vinci Code, working closely with Hollywood directors such as Peter Jackson, Paul Greengrass, Sir Alan Parker and Ron Howard. Irish projects include The Commitments, Father Ted, Bloody Sunday, and Angela’s Ashes.
In 2014, Ros was inducted into the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and in 2018 she will be joining the Irish Academy’s honorary membership, receiving the Irish Academy’s Honorary Industry Award, sponsored by Spotlight.
A member of the Irish Film and Television Academy’s Film Committee, Ros has been a guiding light and a great inspiration for thousands of actors. She is also hugely active in the Irish industry and regularly presents Acting & Casting Masterclasses.
Ros and John have brought several well known actors to fame, having discovered Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Colin Farrell, Orlando Bloom, Sienna Miller and Kate Winslet. Hubbard Casting is based in London, where Ros and John’s children, Dan and Amy, are hugely successful casting directors in their own right. Recent projects include Journey’s End, Little Women, Starfish, 100 Streets, The Promise, Interlude in Prague, and The More you Ignore Me.
"We’re delighted that IFTA has recognised the work of casting directors. It’s absolutely essential that the efforts of casting directors are celebrated by our industry, which is why Spotlight is so proud to be sponsoring this award. We hope that this will set the standard for all other major awards ceremonies to acknowledge the skills of casting professionals as well."
