Spotlight and The Casting Society of America (CSA) are delighted to announce their co-sponsorship of The British Independent Film Awards (BIFA) Casting Director Award.
The British Independent Film Awards highlight and reward the best, most innovative and creative independent filmmaking and filmmakers in the UK. They identify and encourage emerging talent, support and celebrate the independent film community and promote British film and talent to the public.
The five casting nominees are: Avy Kaufman, CSA for “American Animals,” Michelle Smith for “Apostasy,” Julie Harkin for “Beast,” Dixie Chassay for “The Favourite,” and Andy Pryor for “Stan and Ollie.”
We have always believed that the work of casting directors should be celebrated by our industry, which is why Spotlight is so proud to be sponsoring this award in partnership with the CSA. We are especially delighted to be supporting BIFA, which is well known for promoting emerging talent, something which we have always supported at Spotlight.
We are thrilled to be partnering with Spotlight once again to present this important award and applaud BIFA for its recognition of the historically unsung craft of casting.
As a member of BAFTA film committee and on behalf of casting directors everywhere, I salute BIFA’s timely commitment to recognizing the vital contribution that casting can make. Good casting is so often taken for granted, but quite apart from the way that it can make or break a particular film, it also plays a critical role in the future of our industry. At a moment when access, diversity and inclusion are of paramount importance, casting can uniquely help to unlock a more equitable and progressive future for our industry, and by extension, thanks to the singular power of storytelling on screen and beyond.
The British Independent Film Awards will take place in London on Sunday 2nd December 2018.
