How to Master Self-Direction
Actor and Youth Workshop Leader Sam Hardie on Directing Your Own Work
Flatmate not in, Mum telling you you’re amazing no matter what you do, dog not providing much help? Working independently can be hard sometimes - we don’t know where to begin and can feel like we’re getting nowhere. In November, actor and theatre-maker Sam Hardie led a workshop at Spotlight Open House to provide actors with the tools needed when working alone on a piece (as well as a workshop on Lecoq!).
Sam trained at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama on the Acting: Collaborative and Devised Theatre course, and has collaborated and made work with The National Theatre of Scotland, Inspector Sands and the National Youth Theatre.
She currently works as an Associate Artist at the National Youth Theatre, and is the co-founder of theatre company Mad Like Roar. Watch her pointers for self-direction in the video below.
