Turkish Casting Director Harika Uygur Wins European Casting Award
Turkish casting director Harika Uygur is the winner of the Locarno Film Festival’s European Casting Award, this year sponsored by Spotlight, in co-ordination with the International Casting Directors Network, for Mustang. A foreign-language Oscar-nominated debut starring previously unknown talent — Elit Iscan, Gunes Nezihe Sensoy, Doga Zeynep Doguslu, Ilayda Akdogan, and Tugba Sunguroglu.
Harika is a member of the Turkish Foundation of Cinema and Audio-visual Culture and the ICDN. She recently finished casting Iraqui-Kurdish director Hiner Saleem’s Lady Winsley, a French, Turkish, Belgian co-production.
She was voted the winner from 16 nominated casting directors by the 83 members of the International Casting Directors Network (ICDN), which represents casting directors in 24 countries.
The prize was awarded during a ceremony at Locarno’s Hotel Rinascente, attended by Nancy Bishop, and Bond casting director Debbie McWilliams.
