Nigel Seale Spotlight Bursary 2020

In memory of Spotlight’s Nigel Seale, we have created the Spotlight Bursary as a lasting legacy in his honour.

As a passionate supporter of new acting talent Nigel was instrumental in setting up Spotlight Graduates to ensure those performers just leaving drama school had a dedicated focus at the point at which they entered the industry.  Since 1980 we have offered customised support to Spotlight Graduates who are in the process of completing their training and which culminates in the annual Spotlight Prize.

This bursary of £1000, however, is intended to assist a performer who wants to begin their professional training but who may need a little help and support in getting there.

So, for 2020 we have partnered with Open Door whose mission is to work with performers aged 18-26, and who are serious about pursuing a career in acting.

The bursary, awarded this year to Melanie Joyce Ashurst, is to assist in covering some of their expenses at drama school and reduce any financial strain as they are starting out.

Congratulations to Melanie - we can't wait to see how she progresses in her career!

We very much hope that each year this contribution will enable a talented young performer to take the first steps in pursuing their chosen career in our exciting industry.
