Spotlight Takes Action on Environmental Sustainability with BAFTA Albert Consortium

Spotlight Announces Collaboration with BAFTA albert Consortium to Take Action on Environmental Sustainability

We're delighted to announce that we're teaming up with the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) and albert on a new collaboration. This will initiate action on the climate crisis both within the organisation and through our extensive membership of casting professionals and performers. We will start work together to better understand the exciting role that casting directors, agents and performers can play to drive progress on key environmental challenges.

We are absolutely thrilled to be collaborating with albert and support the industry on environmental sustainability. We’ll also be taking a close look at what changes we can make here at Spotlight to ensure we are working as sustainably as possible. We look forward to encouraging professionals across all aspects of our industry to consider the role they can play in bringing about positive environmental change.
Richard Wilson, CEO of Spotlight
Working with Spotlight enables BAFTA albert to explore a new area of the industry, and one with great influence. We are excited by the prospects of collaborating with Spotlight's network of performers, casting directors and agents. This community operates at a crucial nexus of both on screen and off screen activity - a group that can stamp sustainability on a production's agenda in pre-production, and keep it there on camera. Working with Spotlight to understand this opportunity, we hope to inform their members to make real changes behind the scenes and in vision.
Aaron Matthews, Head of Sustainability at albert

About albert

albert is a collaborative BAFTA, indie and broadcaster backed project that brings the screen industries together to tackle their environmental impact and inspire sustainable living. Founded in 2011 and governed by an industry consortium, the group’s objective is to empower everyone working in film and TV production to understand their opportunity and to know how they can make a change.

The project offers events, training, certification, a bespoke production carbon calculator and a renewable energy procurement project. Each year over 1,000 productions use the albert calculator with a further 300 also applying for albert certification.

albert recently launched Planet Placement, a new online hub designed to inspire the creative community and explore opportunities on engaging audiences on the topic of environmental sustainability.
