The Dublin Fringe Festival: Last Week!
The Dublin Fringe is nearly over, but there's still time to take a peek!
The Dublin Fringe Festival is home to bold ideas, brave performing arts and adventurous audiences
The Dublin Fringe Festival is well underway and the city is buzzing with the energy of over 80 unique and cutting edge productions taking place in intimate and sometimes untraditional venues across Dublin. These include everything from brand new plays to stand up comedy, improv, live art and circus.
The Dublin Fringe Festival encourages performers to challenge their ideas of performance and push their boundaries. It provides an unparalleled platform for emerging performers and independent arts companies to showcase their talent to willing audiences looking for cultural inspiration through entertainment. The festival welcomes over 30,000 spectators over the course of its 16 days and for any actor it is a really worthwhile festival to be part of both as a performer, honing skills or trialling new material, and equally as a spectator taking in and learning from the performances of peers.
The Dublin Fringe Festival began in 1995 and in the past has premiered such works as Disco Pigs by Enda Walsh (starring, then unknown, Spotlight Ireland star Cillian Murphy), which went on to great success both on stage and on the big screen, and early plays by playwrights Conor McPherson and Owen McCafferty.
It is a brilliant opportunity for actors to meet other actors, writers and directors, to push themselves as performers and to see who else and what else is out there. Therefore we encourage all our Spotlight Ireland members to get involved. If you aren't already taking part as an actor this year then make sure to still get out and go see some of the incredible and versatile productions on offer before it ends. And if you do have a show on make sure to tweet us @Spotlight_ie to let us know!
